Gwendolyn ("Gwen") Poindexter is a children's book author living in Mount Washington, a hillside community in Los Angeles.  Zoe the Short-Necked Giraffe is her first book.

The story about Zoe began when Gwen was a young working mother of two young sons.   At dinner time, her husband and her boys would make up stories around the dinner table, as a way to keep the conversation going!  One night Gwen made up a story about a young girl giraffe named Zoe, who was unhappy because she had a short neck, and felt different from all the other giraffes.  The story resonated with Gwen, and although she was a working lawyer at the time, decided to try her hand at writing a children's book.  She put pen to paper, and wrote out the story that she had told to her sons.  Many, many, years later, Zoe the Short-Necked Giraffe came to fruition and is now a published book!

Gwen has now completed her second book, Rosie the Rhino and the Great Escape. It was published in early 2023, and includes characters from her Zoe book - and other animals as well - who must help Rosie the rhino save her herd from poachers!
